Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
As Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, lay people can serve the Catholic Church by distributing Holy Communion during Mass. Those invited to serve as Eucharistic Ministers are trained to help with the distribution of Holy Communion during the weekend Masses, at special Masses during the year and taking Holy Communion to the homebound.

Readers are trained to proclaim the Word of God, the Sacred Scriptures, during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. They learn how volume, projection, pauses and word emphasis all help the congregation to better receive God’s holy words. This ministry is open to practicing Catholics ages 16 and above.

Ushers set the tone for the faith community. They have many duties as they assist the priest and the congregation during worship times. This ministry is one of hospitality and welcoming. They are responsible for collecting the offerings and guiding the people in the communion procession.

St. Francis is beginning a Ministry of Greeters to augment the work of the Ushers. The Ministry of Greeters is a simple ministry which requires no more than a friendly word and a smiling face. Everyone likes to feel welcome. This is your opportunity to work with the Ushers to welcome your fellow parishioners as you would welcome Christ. You can make a difference to those who enter the church to attend Mass. As Greeters we represent Christ. We are reminded in Corinthians 3:17 that “We are Christ’s ambassadors.”
The goal of the Greeter is the goal of the people of St. Francis:
+to help newcomers feel welcomed and at ease
+to let long-time parishioners know they are needed and loved
+to make people want to return week after week & become integrated into the life of the parish
How do we achieve this?
+with smiling faces and friendly words
+by making eye contact
+by inviting those who enter the church for Mass to join us for coffee and donuts
+by answering questions and helping people find what they need
Please consider joining us in this ministry of hospitality!
